City may face a Champions League ban from next season. According to media sources, Uefa officials plan a sanction, “heavier than a transfer embargo and a fine,” if it turns out that the information about a Financial rules break in 2014 is true. And the only heavier punishment is throwing out of European tournaments.
This crisis started after Football Leaks documents in the German magazine Der Spiegel, according to which Arab billionaires at the head of the club violated Financial Fair Play rules years ago with £167 million.
The official response from UEFA is that independent body is working on this case, additional information and the sanction are expected to come out very soon. A week ago, it became clear that the information about the possible violations provided by Manchester City, as well as by Der Spiegel, was under investigation.
